Ingredients
  

  • 1 block firm or extra-firm tofu about 14 oz / 400 g, pressed and cubed
  • 4 scallions green onions, sliced (reserve some green tops for garnish)
  • 1 small onion thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar or white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar or maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons neutral oil for frying, e.g. canola, avocado, or sunflower
  • 2 tablespoons water to loosen the sauce, optional

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the tofu – Pat dry and cut into cubes.
  • Fry up tofu – In a skillet, pan-fry until golden and crispy on all sides.
  • Add aromatics – Toss in garlic, scallions, and onions, sautéing until fragrant.
  • Add the sauce – Mix soy sauce, vinegar, and sugar, then pour over the tofu and aromatics. Stir to coat evenly.
  • Serve – Enjoy over steamed rice, warm noodles, or a crisp salad.
